Good morning Tuesday!
I hope your weekend was a good one. And, I hope that this week is treating you well!
Peter and I headed out for a longer hike on Saturday morning.
We left Reston before 7 AM and got to Shenandoah National Park about an hour later. Yes, we were going to hike along our beloved Appalachian Trail again. WE had our backpacks, hiking poles and bear whistles ready. No, we are not sure if the bears are active yet, or if they are still in hibernation.
BUT, it is a well known fact that Shenandoah NP is a prime spot for black bears.
Peter, I'm so glad that I can spot you in the woods. That jacket is a life saver! ;-)
No, we did not see any bears at all.
Nor did we see any snakes (yes, they are around, too).
One always has to be on the lookout for rattle snakes and cotton mouths when hiking. It is still early spring, though. The snakes are probably not active yet.
We did see numerous deer and lots of little pesky gnats where bothering us, that is for sure!
When on the A.T you follow the famous white blazes on the trees. If you do so, you will not get lost.
Let's do this!
It was a lovely day to conquer the mountains, sunny, calm and rather warm.
Not too hot, though …. Just perfect.
We started out with a tiresome, long climb that pretty much winded us. But, as per always you do get rewarded handsomely ...
After we had enjoyed our first view of the day, it was time for yet another climb. Not too tough, though.
Since there are no leaves on the trees and bushes yet you have pretty good views of valleys and ridges as you hike along.
Skyline Drive! When hiking The AT in Shenandoah NP, this scenic mountain road is never far away. You have to cross it numerous time when on the AT. IF you ever visit this area you have GOT to drive Skyline Drive. It is one of the most scenics routes on the entire east coast.
Me crossing Skyline Drive.
Yes, yes … We always bring a good lunch when hiking.
And, the food always tastes soooo very, very good. It is the best.
The nature in the mountains is still in winter mode.
I did not really see any signs of spring there.
BUT, here in the DC-area spring is coming along fast now. My GOD, it almost stresses me out!!
HOW will I get time to capture the beauty that is surrounding us now?
The cherry trees are in bloom, as are the magnolias and the pear trees and … NOOOO, nooooo … I do NOT approve of this!
PLEASE slow down, dearest spring!!!
THIS never, ever gets old!
All right, y’all, I have to take my walk and enjoy all the beauty that is here NOW, it may be gone tomorrow.
Have a good Tuesday!
