Good morning Tuesday!
Christmas week!
This years’s Christmas week is upon us.
December has passed by SO incredibly fast.
Karolina and Mike arrived Friday afternoon.
So very nice having them here.
Mike left yesterday for New Jersey.
But we get to keep Karolina with us until January, 7.
Mike brought his Oculus with him.
Oculus is the mask you put over your eyes and just like that you are in another world.
SO weird and fun.
I tried rollercoasters and walking the plank over a city street from a high rise building. THAT was so creepy, even though I knew that I was in my own living room I did almost freak out.
Anyway, sooo fun to try this.
Saturday was a busy day overall.
I helped Karolina with a work project. And, in the evening we had Peter’s family here for glögg and appetizers.
Sunday, the four of us headed to Arlington Cemetery to see all the Christmas wreaths and to pay my mother- in-law’s grave a visit.
As you all might know, Arlington Cemetery is the biggest (and most prestigious) military cemetery in the US.
It is a majestic, beautiful and somber place. And, it is huge.
John F Kennedy is laid to rest there, so is Jackie. Bob Kennedy is buried there as well. So are many other American dignitaries.
This was Mike’s first visit to this cemetery and he was impressed and humbled by the beauty and its vaste size.
My father in law did serve the United States Air Force for twenty years. After he left active military duty he started work for the Pentagon.
My mother in law was a devoted military wife, and always active in the Officers Wives Club, during all their years in the Air Force. The family moved numerous times during Peter’s, and his sisters, childhood and teenage years.
Not easy for anybody.
Peter’s father did two long stints in Vietnam during the war.
One day my father in law will rest in the same grave as his wife.
We ended the day at the movies.
The movie we watched was West Side Story.
The three of us really liked it. Mike hated it.
The difference between us and Mike is that we know the story, and the songs, so well. Mike did not know much about it at all. I do think you have to know something about a musical before you watch it in order to enjoy it.
I loved the old movie growing up.
Also, Karolina was a cast member in West Side Story in high school.
The new movie is a bit different from the original, and also longer. I think I might prefer the original, but this one IS beautiful as well.
I do recommend it.
Have a very good Tuesday!
