Good morning Tuesday!
I hope you all have had a great weekend!
It was Santa Lucia Day in Sweden on Sunday. I hardly ever get homesick, but it hits me once Lucia is here.
Santa Lucia is so incredibly special. It speaks to the core of my soul more so than any other day of the year. I guess you must have grown up in Sweden in order to fully understand this. I, for one, have not been able to apply this “specialness” to Karolina despite numerous tries.
YOU have to live, breath and experience the beauty of December 13 in order to grasp it. There is so much in the air that day, the Lucia processions that are beyond beautiful, people are happy, you usually celebrate at work and at schools. Lucia is everywhere. People wear tinsel in their hair, both boy and girls. You drink glögg, eat saffron buns and ginger snaps. There are promises of the upcoming Christmas everywhere.
IT is such a SPECIAL day. A day that is near and dear and forever in my heart.
When I grew up I participated in numerous Lucia processions, I know all the songs by heart and the harmonies that goes with them.
I know how it is to nervously walk in the procession in a long, white gown with a candle in your hand singing in an otherwise dark auditorium or church. It has a true nerve to it.
SOOO, on Sunday morning I rolled out of bed at 6:30 (I was awake anyway, so really no big deal).
I made myself a cup of coffee, I lit candles in the living room and then I switched on my Apple TV and went to SVT’s App (Swedish National Television).
And there it was, the Lucia procession! IT was beyond lovely this year. BEYOND!
The Procession was taped in Kiruna/Jukkasjärvi, way north of the Arctic Circle. And it was as lovely as it can be. It was —PERFECT!!
I shed tears, as I always do when I hear and see the choir sing The Santa Lucia song.
This year, due to C-19, the procession took place outdoors. The environment was stunning. And I also really appreciate all the Sami influences this time around. It brought even more perfection to an already perfect Lucia morning.
THANK you SVT for this. I am so grateful that I can watch it from the US.
Well, can you tell that I love Lucia, haha!!
Other than that the weekend was very good.
Karolina made us dinner on Friday night, a very good tortilla soup with all the trimmings. SO awesome to be able to sit down and eat food that someone else has cooked, my daughter in this case.
Saturday, Karolina made a really, really good brusselsprout salad for us as well. I am so glad that Karolina has taken an interest in food and cooking. She was so picky during her childhood and teenage years. Therefore I am so happy report that it is now a thing of the past. YAY!!
And, we went up to Reston Town Center Sunday night to take a look at the Christmas tree.
It is beautiful, as always. Reston Town Center really goes ALL in when it comes to Christmas and decorating. I love that. This year the tree switched colors. I may or may not be so crazy about that fact, but it was still so pretty. Other than that it was nice to see that people were out and about on a Sunday night during the pandemic.
I hope you all had a good weekend as well!
