Good morning Tuesday!
Yes, Peter and I did venture out on a hike Saturday morning. However, we had to ditch our original plan.
Originally, we had planned for a super long hike on a very rocky section of The Appalachian Trail. BUT, the weather turned to rain and fog on Friday night, and it was raining until the wee morning hours. I am very, very scared of wet and slippery rocks while hiking. I have bad knees and bad joints overall.
I do NOT want to slip and fall if I can help it.
SO we bagged our original plan. We are going on said original hike, but that’ll be weekend after next.
We left Reston around 8 or so, it was drizzly and SO very gray.
Yes, the weather made us even more certain that we had made the right choice. Instead we drove to a state park here in the northern part of Virginia, Sky Meadows.
We have hiked there many times before and we love it. It is located in such a beautiful area.
OH yes, we brought a pick-nick lunch as always. THAT is a must while hiking, y’all!
Bring some good foods and plenty of water to drink. AND, some coffee, of course.
THAT picnic is ALWAYS such a great reward mid-hike.
Everything tastes so much better outdoors.
When hiking Sky Meadows you start out with a hefty climb.
This climb WILL wind you a bit! But, the reward is beautiful.
You’ll have the entire valley below you. However, this time around we hiked up into the clouds. Yes, it was still gray and drizzly when we started our hike.
This feels good!
I love fog!
I love it SO much.
But, it is almost a bit eerie when you are hiking and you cannot really SEE anything in front of you.
Also, it gets so very quiet in the fog. Or, in the clouds where we where.
That's right. This would have been a view point of the valley below. BUUUUT ...
Yes, the little village below this mountain is named Paris :-)
NO rewarding views were waiting for us on the top of the mountain this time.
Just fog, fog, fog … OR clouds are more like it.
And, a steady misty drizzle ...
It wasn’t really cold, but it was damp.
Yes, it might not have been the best of weather conditions, but it was beyond LOVELY anyway!
It was so wonderful being out there in nature.
Maybe it even added another dimension to the whole experience ...
We hiked 6,8 miles … or 11 kilometers.
Have a good Tuesday!
