THANK you all for the lovely birthday greetings for my mom!
She has read them all. And, I can now report that she had a really nice birthday celebration at my brother Staffan’s on Saturday.
SO much fun for her, good company, good food, good gifts--and to top it all off, the weather was gorgeous.
My weekend has been good as well.
For the first time in AGES, I went to a friend’s house on Friday evening. THAT was lovely. We hung out on their deck all night long, drank prosecco and had some good food.
THANK you dearest Susanna!
Yes, we’ve been hiking as well.
We did a good 8-miler this time around (12.4 km). Peter and I headed back to the same trail we hiked on about three weeks ago, Bull Run-Occuquan Trail. BUT, this time around we hiked south on it.
Well, what can I say …
Said hike consisted almost only of PUD’s. What is a PUD, you ask? PUD stands for Pointless Ups and Downs in the hiking world.
This somewhat straining hike served up hill after hill. No big climbs at all, but regardless soooo tiring. NO ridgewalking at all, or hardly any.
Just a bunch of ascends and descends. ALL. The. Time.
And, very few rewards. A reward is the splendid view you get when you reach a summit.
All we got here was trees, trees and more trees ...
PUDs are hard for my knees as well. BUT, we muddled thru.
But, at least it is green! And lush!
Hiking on, but keep an eye on those roots.
Bull Run river
IT is almost impossible to take fair pictures of climbs. A pic can never show how steep a trail really is.
But, the woods are pretty.
And the weather was awesome. Perfect, around 75 F (24 C) and NO humidity to speak of.
The trails winds on ...
And then we are reaching a cove.
Found this hiker boot on a stick. Did the hiker totally give up?? Did he throw the other boot into the River?
A river runs thru it.
Sometimes it is really pretty.
The highlight of this hike was our lunch break.
The weather was ideal, by the way.
BUT, this is not a hike I’d recommend to anybody. TOO many PUD’s, too few rewards.
I said it.
Peter is hiking towards our lunch spot.
Sometimes you hike in the wetlands.
Hiking up. Again.
Follow the blazes on the trees.
Our view from our lunch log.
A good sandwich, give it to me!
And my good, good, good little coffee thermos that I bought in Finland two summers ago. I have brought it on SO very many hikes!
At times you meet other hikers out in the woods.
I called this bridge "CREEPY Bridge", it was narrow and built high above the little stream. It was a bit wobbly as well. Hence, Creepy Bridge.
I like when the path looks like this. EASY!
And, just like that you have completed 8 miles. A nice feeling!
Saturday night was awesome, though. Me and the hubster hung out on our deck.
We grilled steaks, corn and I made a caprese salad. Good stuff.
I love our evenings on the deck.
Evenings on TBD (I shamelessly call it The Best Deck) are the BEST!!!
And, a new week it is.
I hope you all are doing good!
