Good morning Tuesday!!
DISCLAIMER: This post contains pictures of cicadas ... ;-)
How was your weekend?
I hope it was a good one for all of you.
In Scandinavia, some of you might have celebrated pentecost (pingst), another religious holiday that is NOT observed in US.
Well, maybe in the churches, but that’s it.
Church and state are deeply separated in the US. The few christian holidays that ARE indeed observed are Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. That’s it. The rest of our federal holidays are non-religious.
BUT, regardless of not observing pentecost, it has been a very nice weekend.
On Friday (during my early morning walk), I heard the cicadas go nuts singing for the first time this Brood X-season.
At places, they are SO loud. SO loud!
At other places, it is more quiet.
At some places, you see SO many of them.
At other places, they are more sparse.
But, they are indeed here and they are everywhere.
They do like places like lamp posts and information signs, too. They like them a lot as a matter of fact.
I found these guys yesterday. Sure, it is kind of too much and a bit gross.
The weekend also consisted of a very fun happy hour on our deck with our best neighbors and our best friend.
SO much fun. And the fact that we are getting back to normal more and more is nothing short of fantastic. We were also invited to another good friend’s house on Saturday night.
It was so nice hanging out in her garden amongst all the cicadas, haha. BUT, the cicadas are kind of cool and quiet at night. It is during the day they go totally nuts.
OH, yes … OH YES!
We did catch the European Song Contest on Saturday afternoon. IT is so fun doing so and it has turned out to be a bit of tradition for Peter and I to watch it.
In the meantime, we chat with my sister and brother-in-law in Stockholm. This year my brother and his wife joined in as well. SO fun with the chat.
And so fun with the whole song contest.
I did NOT like the winning song AT ALL!!!
Malta was my choice.
Sweden was OK. Sorry people, kind of a boring song if you ask me. I totally get that he did not place higher than 14.
However, loads of fun to watch.
Do you guys now that Christer Björkman and Peter Settman are about to introduce a similar contest here in the US? They are … WE’LL see how that goes!!! It might work.
Or, maybe it is a purely Euro-thing that you can only appreciate if you grew up with it??
Sunday Peter and I took a very HOT and long walk/hike on a nearby trail.
I am so damn happy that we have so many nature trails to pick from.
At times, it was unbearably hot, the sun was BAKING down on us on the exposed parts. It was easier to deal with the heat in the woods.
But, it is always nice to be out and about.
