Good morning Tuesday! I hope you all have had a good weekend!
Fall is here and this chick is IN LOVE!!
I love this time of the year SO very much! The nights are cold, the days are warm and sunny. The sky is so very blue. The trees are starting to change colors.
AND, pretty soon I can bid my summer clothes adieu!
Peter and I have yet to switch that HEAT button to the ON-setting. Sometimes we (Peter) are so close in doing so. BUT, we are hanging on. SO far, so …
Right now, it is that precious time of the year when you need either heat nor AC.
Another fall activity of ours is to visit wineries. We love that. It is such a perfect and great thing to do during the fall. We usually venture out with our good friends, Susanna and Marc.
No, the wine in this area is nothing—really— to write home about.
It is not even close to the wines you get on the west coast. Not even! The climate here is not really right for wine. The summers are too hot and too humid. And, the summer nights never turn chilly (as they do out west).
SO, therefore we can never, ever even compete with the wines of California, Oregon or Washington. But, that's OK.
There are SOOOOO many vineyards in Northern Virginia, and as in Virginia as a whole. We live smack in the middle of Virginia Wine Country, and I LOVE IT!!
Okay, the wine is not the best. HOWEVER, it is getting better.
BUT people, the ENVIRONMENT where these vineyards are located is pure gold! What they do not measure up for in wine quality they make up for in coziness and ambiance. Usually the wineries really serve great foods as well.
It is certainly one of my favorite things during the year to visit wineries with our dear friends. Saturday, the four of us ventured out to one of our favorite wineries, Duokenie Winery in nearby Hillsboro.
This place IS awesome, it is located in a valley amongst the rolling hills of Virginia. It takes us around 40 minutes to drive to this place. It is nestled right by a pretty little pond surrounded by cow pastures.
To top it all off, the weather was FAB!!
A bit on the chilly side maybe, but as we sat in the sun we got very warm.
Red wine and a charcuterie plate for us. THIS is how it is served during Covid-19. Plastic glasses and paper plates instead of glass and porcelain.
Compare above pictures to this one (taken exactly a year ago) at the same winery. THIS is how it all used to be presented. Thanks covid, thank you ... *rolling my eyes*
However, this experience is a bit different now during Covid.
You can no longer just show up at a winery. You have got to make reservations beforehand. So, I did. And by that we scored four chairs right by the pond.
The food no longer comes served on pretty plates, and the wine glasses are no longer regular, real wine glasses. All the foods come individually packed and are served that way. THAT takes something away from the experience, sure. BUT it is what it is, for now. Thank that awful virus for that one.
One of these days it will go back to normal.
YOU can still enjoy everything.
You still have the wineries.
Love, love, love.
The Virginia countryside is so very pretty!
Have a good Tuesday!!
