Good morning Tuesday readers!!
Another summer weekend has come and gone.
August is almost over. Fall is just around the corner.
However, in my neck of the world it is not really fall until October. BUT, the evenings get darker much earlier now, the same can be said about the mornings. And, sometimes there really IS a hint of fall in the air.
However, it feels like late summer.
Sticky, hot and humid. Normal, in other words.
Peter and I had a nice weekend.
Friday evening was spent on the deck. AS always.
Yes, yes … a mandatory Aperol spritz for me of course. What else is …
BUT, we went to bed early …
… Saturday morning we left home at 6 AM for Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
An easy hike, but a long one, along the Potomac Heritage Trail awaited us.
The weather was a bit foggy and cloudy, but it cleared up later on.
It was humid and therefore really hot.
Peter's standing next to the Shenandoah River in the early morning.
Misty, gray mountains.
The hikers of the hour.
I am standing in West Virginia looking at the state of Virginia to my right.
It is so nice to hike in this tri-state area.
We started, and ended our hike in West Virginia, the majority of our hike took place in Maryland. And we could see Virginia to our east always the entire time.
Leaving Harpers Ferry in West Virginia for Maryland.
Happy hiker on The Potomac Heritage Trail.
Overlooking West Virginia.
Do you see the rock on your left? I have been to the rop of that rock a couple of times. When you're there you have the most fantastic view of Harpers Ferry. It is called, Maryland Heights.
People are tubing along the Potomac.
You share the path with bikers.
We hiked along the mighty Potomac River, and that is always a treat.
A picknick lunch?
OF course! You just cannot do a proper hike without a picknick.
It tastes soooo good.
LUNCH!! It tastes SO good.
More tubers are coming down the river.
Lots of shells on the river bank.
Ah, THIS!!! THIS is why we hike. For moments like this! Do you see the grey heron on the rock in the middle of the pic? To your right you have the state of West Virginia, to your left the state of Maryland. And straight ahead, the state of Virginia.
Yes, I love this!!
And, once we got back to Harpers Ferry we treated ourselves to an ice cream cone each. THAT was pretty much the first ice cream I have had this entire summer.
I got blueberry cheesecake. As soon as I see blueberry flavored ice cream I have GOT to get it. It is rare here in the US to find that flavor.
As is pear, for some BIZARRE reason.
Same goes for black currant. What gives?
I miss ALL those flavors.
Yes, these guys were fishing.
Here we go again, Maryland Heights. It is sunny now, as you all can see.
This is were the Potomac river and Shenandoah river merge. And, straight ahead it is ALL Potomac.
BUT, a good day for a long hike it was.
In the evening we hung out on the deck again. Our good friend came by for dinner, very nice.
The mighty Potomac.
White water rafting on Shenandoah river.
I wish all of you a nice and good Tuesday!!
