I hope your weekend was good.
Here in my part of the world, we are under the true spell of a classic Washington DC heat wave. Yes, it is hot all summer long here, but at times it gets EVEN hotter. Like, right now.
There are heat warnings issued for older people, and people with asthma and other respiratory diseases, to even go outside now.
The air quality is that bad.
The dead of summer here is equal to the dead of winter. In the winter time, people do not really venture outside during cold spells (except me of course. But, then again, the cold never bothered me anyway ;-) ). It is the same exact thing during a heat wave in the summer, people do not go outside.
It is too hot and muggy. It is like walking in a green house. The air is so thick you can slice it …
Again, only people that have experienced this heat know what I am talking about.
I wish I could take you outside just for some seconds so that you all could get an idea …
During these spells people stay inside in the AC. That is the only right thing to do.
I am taking my walks in the early morning hours, after 9 AM it is too painful. And, believe me, it is painful at 6:30 as well.
Peter and I ventured out to a restaurant on Friday night (our anniversary).
It was sooooo nice being at an establishment again, and it felt SO safe!
We had a table outside, in the shade. The waiter wore a mask the entire time, we kept our masks on while talking to him. There were hand sanitizers around, the menus were printed on regular paper ready to be thrown away after each guest had touched them. Everything felt safe and taken care of.
Peter and I really enjoyed our outing.
AND, there were many people out and about in Reston Town Center.
Yes, it made me happy.
THE desert!! Key lime pie. OOO so good!!
Sign of the times.
And then on the Fourth of July we had a nice, quiet celebration as well.
We were hanging outside with our favorite neighbors and had a drink with them. Two of our oldest, best friends showed up for a quiet dinner on our deck.
WE had two umbrellas and a fan out there, and with that it felt really comfortable.
It is also very wise just to limit the number of guests these days. The fewer, the better.
Earlier in the day, Peter and I ventured out for a HOT-as-SIN hike here in Reston, in the Lake Fairfax area.
Hot morning walk.
Nature is lush!
There is a camping ground by Lake Fairfax as well. I would not want to sleep in a tent in this heat.
An aperol spritz is the way to go on a hot 4 of July. Ignore my nails. It gets better ...
Yesterday I went back to my nail technician again, for the first time since February. It felt so nice, and comfortable. All the safety measures were in effect. I was the only client in the salon the entire time. We both wore masks and there were plexi glass dividers everywhere.
Now my nails look, and feel, fab again!
... like here :-)
Tomorrow I will continue with day three of the Travelouges from our RV-hiking trip.
Have a good Tuesday!!
