Good morning!!
Tuesday again.
Yesterday was cold, damp and grey.
I was freezing, as always. So, I decided to take my laptop with me and head for my nearest Starbucks.
It is sorta nice to hang there sometimes, I think.
Plus, the Skinny Vanilla Latte that I favor always warms me up. All warm and fuzzy!!
Starbucks was packed with people, young and old. The schools in my county had a two-hour delay yesterday.
Yep. I could tell that a lot of parents indeed take their little ones (ES kids) to Starbucks before school.
Every single seat was filled. Old and young folks. A lot of people, that work from home, use Starbucks as their office.
Yes, I kind of like that idea.
I like to hang out there myself writing at times.
It has been said that Swedes love to talk about the weather.
Rest assured, the same goes for people here in Reston. All I heard was talk about the weather; how cold it is, how much snow we got, the delayed schools, more snow to come, longing for spring, cannot wait for the warmer weather etc etc.
SO the story goes. The weather conversations are universal.
I like sitting at Starbucks. I like listening to people's conversations. I like looking at new people walking thru the doors. I like hearing the coffee machines humming. I like the smell of coffee.
I don’t visit the coffee chain very often, but when I do I like it.
Today, I might head up to Starbucks again.
Our power company is planning a power outage today,
One can ask oneself, WHY do they do that? In February? Why can they not wait until a month from now?
I know it’ll be a cold day today! Very cold. Colder than yesterday.
Yes, you all know how the schools here close because of snow. Fine.
Totally understandable in our area where we are kind of vulnerable (no winter tires, lousy snow removal etc).
I get that. I buy that.
However, I’ll never, ever get that the schools close because it is cold outside (like, when it dips -10C and below). THAT does not make any sense to me. People are claiming that it is too cold for kids to stand outside and wait for their school buses, or that the side walks are too slippery. Or...or…or….I don’t know.
AND, it is a new thing! I have zero memories of these phenomenon from Karolina's ES and MS years. Last year, the schools closed because of the Polar Vortex, and they seem to do exactly the same this year.
Wimpy INDEED!!!
Dress your kids, people!!! Dress them WELL, and you won't have this problem.
Layer your clothing. It is zero excuse, in my book, to close the schools because of cold weather.
Last time I checked ALL the schools were heated!
Have a good Tuesday!!

Kram!
Kram!
We have one Starbucks in this area in Yreka. None in Mt Shasta which is kind of odd as most tourists come there. And of course nothing that fancy in Weed. ;)
Sounds like a nice place to hang and check people out and what they are up to.
I think the weather is a universal "theme." We are always having some sort of weather.
Why would they plan a power outage when it is that cold? Sounds like they are not thinking at all.
Wimpy indeed! Too cold to wait for the bus. Give me a break. ;) But of course they are not Vikings like we are.
Closings schools because it is cold OUTSIDE makes no sense at all. Bundle in layers.
Big hugs!
This felt really different to write in English. Always good to try something new.

Kramar!!!
Karin:
Kramar!!
Hi my dear!!
So fun that you wrote your comment in English today. You and I are not used to write in English to each other :-)
I know, the weather chats are universal. For sure.
People are interested and concerned about it.
OMG, I cannot even begin to tell you how wimpy I think it is to close because it is cold out there. Get a GRIP!!!
It irks me. Last year they closed on a clear, calm day. NO snow on the ground. Not even a flake. But, it was -17! Today it is -17 as well. AND, the schools are OPEN!! However, I can only imagine the s**t the board will have to take from parents today for making the decision NOT to delay. Good grief.
True, when I was a child I walked to school, on snowy, icy sidewalks. The coldest temp I can remember, -31!!!
The schools are INDEED heated here. SO, go to school!!!!!
Hugs and hugs!!
Anita:
Mysko. Har inte sett kommentarerna "bakom scenen" heller. Men blogger Àr SKUMT ibland.
Precis som Insta. Helt otroligt det som hÀnde dig dÀr. Fasiken.
Tack, idag har vi iskallt. Jag behöver inte mer snö nu heller.
Kramar!!!
Like it. Like it a lot!!
Kramar!!!
Ruth:
Jag vet.
Men ÀndÄ Ruth...
Wait and see...
Men visst, det Àr helt galet vad KALLT det Àr!!!
Ngt Àr vrickat...
Oj oj...
Ha en fin kvÀll! KRAMAR Anna
Jamenvisst. TRAMS!! Pà med klÀder. Lager pÄ lager.
Channal:
Visst Àr det mysigt!!
Gillar det starkt.
Sant, vi Ă€r alla vĂ€derintresserade. Ăver hela klotet, tror jag. KUL!!!
Ha en fin kvÀll du med!!
Kramar!!
It is also such a new thing. You know, closing schools bc of the cold. I have zero memories of these kind of closings in the past, when K was in ES-MS.
Yes, layer, people, layer!!!!!!!!
So true.
Ruth i Virginia
Jaja. it is what it is...
