Hello you all!!
Tuesday. It is time to go back to all routines, even the blog routines. And, for me that is to write a bit in English every Tuesday!
I hope all is good with you!
Here on the American east coast we are expecting FRIGID, arctic air today. It is supposed to be the coldest day in over 20 years, or so they say!
I wonder how bad it will be? What are we IN for?
IT IS SO WINDY right now.
Around 18:00 last night most schools in the DC-metro area announced that they are INDEED closed today. Yes, due to the cold and the winds. SO, Karolina will sleep in.
Sure, you guys, I am so planning (BUT, I guess I will have to see, really. I do not want frost bites, no thanks) a walk this morning despite the bitter cold temps!
YOU bet. YOU know ME!!
You all know how much I love the elements. I love walking in a snow storm, getting snow in my face, I love walking in cold weather.
I love all kinds of winter conditions as long as I can come home to a warm house afterwards.
And, I can! I am lucky in that regard. So are you, dear reader!
We all have a nice, warm home to call our own.
Even out here, in the DC suburbs, where I live we have homeless people. Yes, even here---in one of the richest counties in the entire USA-- you will find them.
The homeless live in tents in the woods all year long. Even in cold weather.
It is hard even to imagine that, right?
We have a homeless shelter here in Reston, and I think it is filled to capacity almost every day of the year.
And, during the winter it is more crowded than it usually is. Especially on days, and nights, like these.
There is a hypothermia warning in effect, and I know that volunteers are trying to persuade homeless men and women to sleep in shelters. And, yes, even children are homeless.
If nothing else they will be served a warm meal, and they will be given blankets and jackets.
I sometimes complain that my house is drafty, cold and worn. But, what gives me the right to do that? Really. Really!?
I can crank the heat up high. I have baseboard heating on top of the heat pump. Heck, I even have a space heater to use.
I also have a heated blanket, and numerous throws and comforters. I have hot water and a kitchen that is fully stocked. Yes, I have a home! I have a place that shelters me from the elements.
ONE of my resolutions for 2014 is to complain less over petty things, and APPRECIATE ALL that I have.
I want to help out where I can help out; Giving food to food banks, donate clothes to organizations, donate money to Cornerstones...
Did I tell you that today is going to be a cold day, a frigid day…
