How was your weekend?
Good, I hope!
We are nearing the end of April and time is flying, as per usual. It is hard to believe that it is almost May.
Our weekend was so nice.
Yes, we did go to our favorite restaurant on Saturday night. OHHHHH BOY, was it nice!!
It was raining and it was cold outside, but that made the experience even better. It was so beyond nice to sit down inside a warm restaurant.
Did it feel weird and different?
Yes, and no. We wore masks as we were walking thru the dining room, but we took them off as soon as we had been seated. The waiters wore masks the entire time. The tables were spaced far and between. In the bar, there was strict crowd control. BUT, the restaurant and bar were both fully booked. People are indeed going out again. Maybe we are nearing some kind of normality? I believe so.
I also believe that almost everybody at the restaurant were vaccinated. I am pretty much banking on that fact now. I am taking it for granted, more or less.
And, people …
WAS it ever nice to get a signature cocktail served before dinner?
OMG, YES it WAS!!!
Was it super nice indulging in appetizers before the meal itself?
Did we enjoy our main courses?
WE did, but we especially enjoyed our side dish. And that was Brussel sprouts in a korean dressing with peanuts. As a matter of fact, that side dish was better than our entrees.
DID we enjoy our dessert?
We enjoyed the entire evening. It felt so nice and safe being out and about again.
I am sure restaurants everywhere are feeling this effect now. AND, good for them!!! I am happy for all the establishments.
SUNDAY was Peter’s birthday!!
I made pancakes for breakfast and Peter loved it, of course. Especially since I made chocolate and hazelnut pancakes, and that purely by experiment. I decided to chop up some Ritter Sport whole hazelnut chocolate and then I threw the chocolate pieces in the batter. OH MY, what a TREAT!! Dangerously good.
Peter got his presents, hiking gear, some new clothes and a couple of bottles of good whiskey.
We took a long walk in north Reston (we live in the south part) so it was super nice with a different kind of scenery (same same but different, but still ...).
I made Peter's favorite meal in the evening. AND, then we hunkered down watching the Oscar’s.
This makes me happy!
It was a different kind of Academy Award ceremony this year. Different, but not bad.
It was more quiet, somber and intimate. It felt as if they were concentrating more on the art of film making than on the glam-factor. Not bad.
And, I am so happy that Nomadland won so many prizes. THAT movie is so very good.
I hope yours was, too.
And now we are all going to tackle the new week!!
