This is the first real workday/school day for 2012.
Every day life is about to set in again.
I am SO happy because today I do NOT have to take Christmas down. I did it ALL yesterday!
Now Christmas, and all my decorations, are gone.
Do I feel blue?
NO, not one bit. It actually feels good!
Here is a look at my 2011.
I usually write a post like this every January, and now it is time again.
We had a cold winter. A very, very cold winter. But, we did not get a lot of snow. I was quite mad that the snow storms missed us almost EVERY time. They had snow south of us, and north of us. DC, however, was in pocket. But, it was COLD! And, yes, I do enjoy the cold weather.
Peter and I made nice dinners almost every Saturday night. Sometimes we had guests, sometimes we were alone. I hope we can repeat this in the winter of 2012.
And, I bought tulips and daffodils almost every week. I just love buying those flowers in the winter time.
February had quite warm days (a few of them, at least). I guess I did sit out on the deck with my Vaio. I did enjoy it a lot, even though I continued to wish for snow...
The story repeats itself. We're cooking good dinners every weekend. This is Bobby Flay's meatloaf. It is probably the best meatloaf I have ever had.
Awaiting some dinner guests.
The weather in February continued to be on the cold side.
In the end of March/beginning of April the cherry blossoms were blooming in DC. It is so breathtaking and beautiful!
This picture is taken in my neighborhood.
BUT, March was another cold month. We had ice storms in the middle of the month...
I am so in love with daffodils in the winter/spring time.
In March I also turned 45 years old. I got this camera from my hubby! A DSLR! SO happy! And, I really love it. To go from a bridge camera to a SLR was just the best thing I could have done for my hobby.
Oh what a beautiful month April is! It looks like a fairy tale in nature! This is a Dogwood.
In April you'll find Kwanza cherry trees blooming as well. SO stunning!
For spring break the three of us traveled to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.
Spring is SO beautiful!! This is a crab apple tree...
We're using the deck. A lot! The deck is like a second living room during the warm season.
Lotta hosted a "girls-night-on-the-deck-party" on her deck in May. SO good, and fun.
I am visiting Meadow Lark Garden in nearby Vienna. This is my closest botanical garden.
My bench in May...
Right before we took of for Scandinavia we traveled to the beach for five days. This is my favorite place; The Outer Banks in North Carolina. Love it. SO MUCH!!!
June is a wonderful month! However June 2011 was a HOT one. The evenings were beautiful with stunning sunsets and magical fireflies...
Peter and I are celebrating Midsummer (HUGE Swedish holiday) in Ashburn at Sara's place. Very nice.
We're back north! In Scandinavia. This is Stockholm: beauty on water. We had such lovely weeks there. The weather was actually hot, and we loved it!
My sister Sara and her hubby Håkan moved into a brand new apartment in Stockholm in May. This is their STUNNING view. We spent almost every evening on their balcony.
Ah, and we were in Finland, of course. The best place on earth. This is my grandma Signhild in Närpes. She is 93 years old! Here she is with her great-grandchildren Ebba and Karolina.
The house by the sea. OUR beloved summerhouse in Närpes. BEST place in my world!
Another place I am in love with! This is my brother-in-law's Håkans summer place in the south of Sweden. Karolina and I spent a wonderful week together with Sara and Håkan in this house. We did enjoy it so much!
Småland in the south of Sweden.
I came back to the US in the middle/end of August. The weather was HOT!!
We had one of the worst thunder/hail storms I have ever seen.
AND; we had an EARTH QUAKE on Aug, 23 that registered 5,8 on the Richter scale.
The quake was SO freaky and SO scary. I hope it'll never, ever happen again!
After the hurricane Irene (who was kind of nice to the DC-area) we had a rain storm that was the worst one I have ever seen!
The golf course turned into a river. At least two people died in Northern Virginia.
It was scary and fascinating at the same time.
This is one of the parking lots in Reston. Needless to say, it did RAIN that day!
(This pic is from the net)
In the end of September my three year old Sony Vaio laptop crashed! And, it took 10,000 pictures away from me! I was devastated and mad.
Is a laptop computer really only going to last for three years? What a JOKE!!
This is when I decided to switch to Apple.
And, so far so good! I really like my Macbook Pro!
We're visiting Tarara Vineyard nearby. SUCH a picture perfect day! However, it was stink bugs EVERYWHERE!!!
Around Halloween we got SNOW and ICE!! Totally BIZARRE weather!
Karolina was doing lots of shows at the school during the month of October.
And, Halloween was nearing! I was so happy, just like the kids!
Fall is really a lovely season here.
My favorite American holiday, Thanksgiving.
This picture is taken on Black Friday in Reston Town Center. It was MILD as can be, around 70 degrees F (20 C).
The three of us took the train up to NYC! We had such a great weekend in the cool city. It was mainly a scouting trip! We checked out NYU and Juilliard.
And, at home in Reston I deck out my house for Christmas. My favorite time of the year.
I made glögg, both white and red. SO good!!
I checked out all the decked out houses in Reston. Well, not ALL of them, but some of them! FUN!
During the morning walks the light was amazing!
During the month of December I also hosted two parties. Fun, but time consuming!
And now it is 2012.
I hope the new year will bring ALL the best for us all!
