Right now I am thinking about…
• The Royal Wedding.
I know that you people in the US probably don’t even know that a Royal wedding is about to take place on June, 19th in Stockholm, Sweden. It is the crown princess that will get married to her man. The man is a “commoner”, and that is all fine and dandy with me.
However, this wedding is something that the Swedish media is all over right now. HOW can you Swedes in Sweden STAND it? I get tired of it, and I don’t even LIVE in Sweden. The whole wedding sort of irks me the wrong way. I have never been a royalist, and I am not about to become one.
I don’t care whether or NOT Victoria will walk up the aisle with her dad, the king, or with Daniel (by her side). Pfft, who cares? (IN Sweden it is NOT tradition for the bride to walk up the aisle with her dad. In Sweden you don’t “give the bride away”. But Victoria wants it the American way). And, I don’t care about the “wedding cake for the people” that you can buy in the stores. Some name, too. The name of that cake makes me NOT want to taste it at all. And, not to mention all the merchandise following in the wake of a royal wedding… STOP THE CRAZINESS!!
The cost of the entire thing? Yes, the Swedes are paying for all of it thru their taxes. I would not say so much (about this wedding) if the Royal Family paid for it themselves, but NOOOO….
Sure, sure…sure as HELL. I will be super duper curious on what dress Victoria will be wearing, and I am also a bit curious about the guests and all the glam and glitter. Of course I am. I will probably sit and read the tabloids as soon as I can. BUT, it annoys me that I am that interested. I should just boycott it for all it is worth.
I am proud to say that I have not watched a single royal TV-show leading up to the wedding (there have been plenty on the Swedish networks). Nothing new will be said on these shows anyway; the interviewer will just sit there on egg-shells and ask the same old questions. Spare me.
I will NOT watch the wedding on web-TV on June 19th. No, I won’t. I will be in Williamsburg that entire weekend. Oh, and I doubt any American network will broadcast it. In Europe, it will be broadcasted live the entire day, from morning to late night.
Why even have a Royal Family? They just sit there, cost a lot of money and the whole thing is so old fashioned. Good PR for Sweden?
Nah, I don’t think so. In what way? I ask.
I know I am sticking out my neck now. Many of my readers LOVE the Royal Family, and that is fine. But I don’t, and that is fine, too.
We’re just seeing this from different angles.
Yes, I am very happy that she will get her guy. But, stop the insanity brought on by media...
• Karolina finishing Middle School.
I cannot believe that my little girl is about done with middle school. Where did these last couple of years GO? I have no idea. My little girl is on the verge of starting high school. No, no I just can’t believe it is true. But, alas, it is. I am about to become a high school mom. Four more years of public school, and then off to college. Yup, that is the way it is. But, Karolina is so little, my little girl…
It is sick, but we are busy all the weekends leading up to our departure to Sweden in the end of June, and so are most of my friends. This is a crazy busy time of the year for most of us. It is a bit sad, because this is really the time when you should enjoy the nature more than ever. Now it is at its most beautiful stage of the entire year. We should all just sit back, take it in, not stress from one thing to another…
Carpe diem, people!!
