This Week: As Promised

Sideways. Wonderful movie you should enjoy with a glass of red wine.

Love this movie! Lasse Hallström's best.

My beloved Mike Myers as Austin Powers

My favorite of the favorites

Last week I promised you guys a post about good movies. It can always be interesting to see if we have any movie favorites in common.
I cannot say that Peter and I are off to the movies too often these days. When we have a "date" nowadays we actually prefer going to a new restaurant we have not visited before instead of running off to the movies.
But movies are movies and there are always DVDs.
I will list some of my favorite movies of all times here. See if you agree, or dis-agree with me.

Every time I get the question: what is your favorite movie? I'll always answer:
¤ When Harry met Sally. I LOVE this movie. I think it is the ultimate movie in so many ways. It is hard to say how many times I've seen it. Countless.

¤ I am Sam. Fantastic movie, touching and lovely. Sean Penn is truly great playing the Autistic Sam, and Dakota Fanning is nothing but great playing his little daughter.

¤ Gone with the Wind. Nothing more needs to be said about the master piece.

¤ Once Around. My favorite Lasse Hallström movie! Also the movie from which Peter and I got the idea to use "Fly me to the moon" as our first dance at our wedding 13 years ago.

¤ Fried Green Tomatoes. Girl power movie! Mary-Louise Parker and Mary Stuart Masterson kick butt.

¤ Love Actually. Such a feel-good movie! Lovely to watch this movie around Christmas, or anytime for that matter.

¤ The French Lietunant's woman. A movie I have loved since I was a teen-ager. Meryl Streep and Jeromy Iron's are nothing but magnificent.

¤ Room with a view. Romantic and so beautiful.

¤ Roman Holiday. Audrey Hepburn so darn cute!

¤ Sideways. A new classic for Peter and me. Love it!!! You've gotta enjoy it with your favorite glass if red wine, but do stay clear of Merlot:-)

¤ Austin Powers. All three of them. I am a total Mike Myers fan! I have seen these movies countless times.

I know I have forgotten so, so many good movies here. If you have any favorites I would love to hear about them. I also have Swedish favorite movies, but those I'll write about in another post.

Roman Holiday

Sean Penn at his best!

A favorite movie from my teen-age years

  1. We do have some favorite movies in common, and no not "Roman Holiday" or "Fried Green Tomatoes." I do like all the Austin Powers movies and "When Harry Met Sally," though I don't have any of them on DVD. Like you I haven't been to the movies much lately either. I'm not jazzed about what's been out there lately. However, one movie I'd like to see is "Flags of Our Fathers" about the battle of Iwo Jima and directed by Clint Eastwood. Looks like a good war flick, if you can call anything about war good. My favorite movies that I have on DVD are sci-fi like Spider-Man, The Mummy, and The Matrix. I also have some sports flix like Chariots of Fire and Prefontaine. Of course, I always enjoy a good comedy such as Office Space, Anchorman, or The 40 Year Old Virgin. I'm sure I can add to that list, but that's a good start.

  5. SB: I do remember legends of the fall...It was beautiful! Aidan quinn was so good-looking. I am not at Brad fan, he doesn't do much for me...
I actually borrowed "Shawshank redemption" from SS but I haven't watched it yet. I hear it is really good!
