This Week: A Bit of This, and a Bit of That...
The most beautiful time of the year in Washington DC is right now. NOW is the time for the cherry blossoms down by the Tidal Basin to shine in all their glory.
The B family has not seen them yet this year, the pictures you can see here are from last year. We hope we can make it downtown by this weekend.
The cherry trees look like something out of dream!! It is like a vision out of a fairy tale.
If you live somewhat close to DC now it’s the time to visit! You’ll find cloud upon cloud of pink and white flowers. Take your time as you stroll around the Tidal Basin, take a break at Jefferson Memorial and admire the view of the water and the surrounding buildings, the trees, and the monument right ahead of you.
The 3000 trees were given to Washington DC as a friendship gift from Japan in 1912, and thanks to that we can enjoy their beauty every year.
But be prepared for the crowds, at times during the weekends it is almost back-to-back pedestrian traffic around the Tidal Basin.
Personally I am waiting for our own cherry trees to start blooming here on our street. In my yard I have the prettiest, pink cherry tree that blooms a tad bit later than all the other trees in the area. When it blooms it brings a pink shimmer to the whole house, so very pretty. Unfortunately the tree is not feeling so good these days, and I hope it will keep on hanging in there since it is a perfect tree for all seasons. At Christmas, I am decking it out with white lights, at Halloween I put lights and ghosts and scary creatures on it, and in the summer time I put a few hanging candle holders on it. Please, tree, hang in there!!!
Another favorite tree of mine this time of the year is the pink magnolia tree. Their beauty never seizes to amaze me, as soon as they are in full bloom I promise you to show you pictures of them here on my blog.
IF the weather only could be a bit warmer, I’d be pleased…
Yesterday I pulled my neck so badly when I got dressed in the morning. I don’t know what on earth I did to myself but I totally messed up my neck. I was in pain all day yesterday; I took in Advil and smeared Bengay on it all day long. It is so tiring, and so hard to deal with, especially while driving.
And speaking from experience I know that it will take a while to get over it.
But one of the things that cheered me up, except for the Swedish breakfast club of course, was when I heard an interview with Madonna on 99,5. It was so fun to listen to what she had to say, and to hear some of her newer, and especially older hits. Madonna is a star with the highest star quality and I really do like her! She has cranked out so many good songs during her long career, and she meant a whole lot to me (but even more to my sister Sara) in the golden 80s. SO cool, and so IT, and she still IS!!
What really did cheer me up, and make me crank up the radio to the max was “Borderline”, that song is one of Madonna’s best songs ever!!! You can enjoy it right here!
What do you guys think? What is your favorite Madonna song?
It’s going quite well for me in the American Idol karaoke competition on the Wii. I am in the top six now! Scoring HIGH!!!
My best song to date? My 100.000 point Diamond performance is “My heart will go on”…Believe it or not!!! Annika, the “never-sing-ANY-Mariah-Celine-Whitney-songs-in-the-American-Idol-competition-BIG-NO-NO” has now scored the highest of the high with a Celine song (as you can see here I am taking this quite seriously ;-))) ). Could this mean that I am the next Celine??? Hahahahah!!! Good one!!
My second best song? Ah, that is “Copacabana”…I am BELTING it OUT!!!
Have a very good, and pain free, Tuesday.
