Happy Valentine’s Day!
I hope you all are having a good one today when friendship, love and romance ARE in the air!
My dearest daughter claims that Valentine is a commercial-holiday, and so be it. BUT, I tell her that it is OK to celebrate it anyway.
It does not have to be in a big, grand way. But, a (home made) card would do, or some tulips or a bit of chocolate...
OR a big, fat diamond-bracelet from Tiffany's (Peter, do you read this!). Well, I am very modest, as you can tell. I would never demand big presents ;-)
In Sweden, Valentine’s Day is called “All Hearts Day”, in Finland it is called “Friendship day”.
And, here in the US people DO observe their Valentine’s Day.
The stores are full with Valentine merchandise (hearts, candy, chocolate, stuffed animals, baloons, little books etc etc).
ALL the flower shops around this country will be working over-time today. People buy flowers, chocolate and little gifts.
Is it solely romantic? Only for lovers?
No, it is not.
In pretty much ALL elementary schools in the US, the children will swap small Valentine-cards (and maybe candy) with one another.
Before Valentine’s Day you, as a parent, are given a list of the names of all the children in your child's class. All of them need a card.
As soon as your kid starts middle school, things like this end, but the kids can continue on among one another, of course (and believe me, they will).
Adult friends often swap cards, or a little gift, as well.
The restaurants will be PACKED tonight. A lot of the restaurants have pre-fixed menus, usually a three, or five, course menu.
However, having been to restaurants WITH pre fixed V-day menus, I would not recommend it. The food tends to be quite mediocre.
Today is the day when you are bound to see flower deliveries like crazy around you, you will see baloons and you may say that love is, indeed, in the air.
These "conversation hearts" are a super popular candy in the US around Valentine's Day.
Here at the B family residence, it will not be a big celebration tonight. Peter is going to a basket ball game. OH the romance...
However, we have reservations at one of our favorite restaurants this up-coming Saturday. I am looking forward to that.
BUT, I do see Godiva chocolates and flowers on my dining room table, that perks me up!
I own ZERO decorations for V-day. I have none. It is kind of too bad because usually the decorations are SO very cute.
I think I might get some for next year.
I think we should all celebrate today in OUR own way. Celebrate it JUST like YOU want it!
And, I am sending lots of LOVE to all my dear readers of this blog!
THANKS for following me! Today, and all other days.
You know it, without YOU it would be NO blog!
Happy Valentine’s Day to ALL of you in the US, in Europe and in other places of our world!
Hugs from Yours Truly!!!
