Halloween is lurking around the corner.
Yes it is?
What date is Halloween?
Halloween is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, and again, ALWAYS on October, 31.
Of course all the American's know this. It is the Swedes that are somewhat confused about the date. Swedes tend to mix up Halloween with All Saint's Day.
And, they have nothing in common. They are two separate days. SEPARATE!!
Halloween is a holiday I have come to love!
After 16 years in the US, I can honestly say that it (Halloween) speaks to the side of me that wants to have FUN, I usually like to have a GOOD time!
And, in the US they know HOW to celebrate! AND, they do it SO good!
Halloween is all about FUN!! The scary part comes in second!
It is about having a good time, lights, pumpkins, candles, costumes...
NO, you DO NOT have to dress up as a scary character! You can go as a princess, a whoopy cushion, Obama or a flower. It is YOUR pick!
The same goes for kids costumes! A kid can dress up as anything. It does not have to be scary!
My own daughter has gone with the scary theme since the age of six. Before then I could pretty much pick and choose for her, but in first grade she started to decide for herself. And, with that it was good-bye to princesses and angels and HELLO to the scary stuff! The scarier the better!
Peter and I just went with the flow and got her the costumes she desired. In a little way, I think it is kind of cool that she ditched the girly-girl stuff. She has never been a girly-girl. Ever.
Like mother like daughter, I suppose. When I pick a costume for Halloween I don't want it to be "cute" either.
Here is a parade of costumes over the years!
My first real Halloween party here in the US 1990! AND, I had just met Peter. Peter invited me to go to his fraternety's Halloween bash. SO fun. The girl to the left is also Swedish, Helena.
The other pic is a bonus pic from October 1990 taken in Harper's Ferry in West Virginia. It was, like, Peter's and mine third date! Check out the FASHION!!! What a babe...hahahaha!!!
SO, Peter and I got married in 1993, and three years later, in 1996, this little girl entered the stage: Karolina.
Karolina at five months, and then a year later! Time flies!!!
Karolina in 2000 as "The Sleeping Beauty", but she has to pose with a twist, of course.
And then Karolina and myself back in 2001. Check out the angel's expression!!!
Karolina and Peter back in 2000...
Bye-bye princesses and angels and hello to the scary phase! In 2002 and 2003...
Karolina went trick or treating with some of the neighborhood kids, all older than she is! But, did she have FUN, or what!!!
In 2003 we were invited to a huge, and fantastic Halloween party! I was one of the judges...
It gets worse and worse in 2004 and 2005! The girl keeps the blood chilling!!
The fright fest goes on in 2006 and 2007...
Mother and daughter last year, 2008. Peter and I were invited to yet another HUGE Halloween BASH!!
Peter last year, dressed as Will Ferrel from Semi Pro...
Loads of fun Halloween memories, as you can understand!
This year we are not going to a party, but we'll make sure we'll have a hell of a time here at home instead. AND, this year Halloween is on Saturday!
Go on, have fun. Let the fun (and scary times) begin!!!
