NOT a good weekend for Yours Truly ...
I hope your weekend has been a good one.
… Well, mine has not been a pleasant one. It’s been a literally painful and hard weekend.
IT all started as I was sitting down to watch ESC (Eurovision Song Contest) on my Apple TV. I made myself a huge cup of piping, hot tea.
I was ready for a fun afternoon with ESC and a good chat with Sara, my sister, at the same time.
I placed my cup (a huge mug) on the back of my couch. Sat down, readjusted myself and the next thing I know the cup fell over. ON ME!!!
I burned my entire left arm, parts of my left breast and part of my hip.
It hurt so bad I almost fainted.
SO, my neighbor--Sara--came over (nurse that she is). All I could do was to sit with my arm in a bucket of ice-cold water.
Sara said that we had to get into the ER.
And, we sort of knew that, too.
So in we went. Me in the backseat with a tub of cold water, and Peter driving. We got in RIGHT AWAY!! I did not have to wait a single second.
I got morphine thru an IV, and the staff started to take care of my wounds. NOT fun.
The water had scolded me, the outer layer of skin was totally gone.
The diagnoses? Second degree burn.
I got a tetanus shot as well.
And, I got sent home with super strong Motrin and other pain medications.
My arm looks awful.
I am tired ALL the time. I don’t sleep well. It is hard to do everyday things. IT HURTS ALL THE TIME!
Night and day.
Day and night.
So, today I am referred to a soft tissue specialist. He will take a look at my arm, and see what we can do to minimize scarring.
My primary care physician (whom I saw yesterday) could not do so much, she took care of the wounds and re-dressed it, gave me more pills and ALL her sympathy in the world. She’s wonderful.
So, we’ll see what the specialist says in a couple of hours when I see him?
And, what the plan is going forward.
Happy to have insurance, of course. As long as you have that the health care is wonderful and prompt. No delays anywhere. You can see a specialist the very next day, or sometimes even the same day.
So, dear peeps, that was my weekend in nutshell.
Peter and I had dinner reservations on Saturday night, of course we could not go.
Sunday was Mother’s Day, but I was mostly tired. Tired from the pain, lack of sleep and meds.
I don’t really tolerate strong narcotics so well, so I am trying to take everything one step at the time.
Time will heal the wounds.
This too shall pass.
IT could have been worse.
