Good morning, dear readers!
As you all know my summer in Scandinavia was nothing but a true joy. I don't think there has ever been a warmer summer there. I, for one, cannot remember anything like the summer of 2014.
The month by our summer house in Närpes, Finland was like a dream. Sunny day after day.
WARM! No, correction, it was hot! The water in the Bothnian Sea (the northern part of the Baltic Sea) reached pool like temperatures (at least in our little bay).
It was--quite simply put--remarkable.
One day in July we decided to take a little trip with our boat. We went to the nearby island of Långgrund in the archipelago of Norrnäs.
This day might have been the most picture perfect day of the summer.
We left out summer house, in the sound, and the sea was as calm as velvet.
Mellanbådan and Ritgrund.
Here is Långgrund!!!
We have arrived!!
I think it took us about 30 minutes to reach the island of Långgrund.
And, it was such a nice boat ride.
Hönsbär! These are said to be poisonous. I don't know it this is true...
I mean, I rest my case!!
My mom was with us (my sister, Håkan and myself). She's 74 years old! But, she's just like us. She jumps over the rocks like a 40-45-48 year old ;-)
She swims in the sea even though the rocks are awfully slippery.
My mom rocks!!
When I am 74 I want to be just as fit and healthy and strong that she is!
My mother always wants to go explore islands, not matter how far away they are, and no matter how hard they might be to manage once you are there.
My mom--the strong farmer's daughter!!
So, we walked, we swam (the water was WARM) and we ate. We always bring a picnic with us on these excursions. It usually contains of sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, hot dogs (that we grill. NO not on the rocks. And yes, we always make sure that there are absolutely NO fires when we leave), and some sweets.
It is so nice and cozy to eat said picnics.
All these beautiful rocks!
Fackelblomster! They belong in the archipelago!
Håkan, my brother-in-law, went for a run while on the island. Don't ask me how he did it, but he did. Håkan also ran on the island of Grytskär that is next door to Långgrund.
This is a day that I am "saving". I'll think about it in the fall when it gets cold. I'll look at all my pics. I'll sigh and I will long for the next time...
Next summer. Same island.
Yes, it is a date!!
Have a wonderful Tuesday!
