On a perfect Saturday!
Good morning Tuesday!
Easter is over.
For me it is the one holiday I do not celebrate. It is way too short for that here in the US, and I cannot muster up enough excitement for it.
So, sorry Easter. But this is the way the cookie crumbles.
If I had been in Sweden, it would have been an utterly different story, believe you me!
BUT, Peter and I had a wonderful Easter Saturday. Or, påskafton, as one says in Swedish.
We decided to visit Arlington Cemetery in the late morning.
We got some flowers and put them on Peter’s mother’s grave. I also took a small stroll along the tombstones.
Arlington Cemetery is huge. The tourists are flocking there to see the gravesite of the late Kennedy’s (JFK and Jackie’s, as well as Bobby Kennedy’s). The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is also a highly popular must-see-spot when you visit Arlington. And, of course, you can pay a visit to Robert E Lee’s home while there. You know, the general of the south during the Civil War.
However, there are so many places around those busy venues where you can feel complete calm and serenity.
I call myself an agnostic. I am not religious at all. BUT, I am not saying that there isn’t higher powers that we—as humans—cannot explain.
Anyway, I find peace in cemeteries and in churches as well. Serenity and calmness, if you will.
In this little corner of the cemetery, everything was so calm. Almost silent. It was so very beautiful.
The magnolias-among many other trees- are in bloom now. And, they are so lovely.
Peter and I left the cemetery and headed to Old Town Alexandria. We had a good lunch there. The weather was so top notch perfect on Saturday. Around 68 degrees (19C) and so sunny.
People were really out and about.
I felt so happy and energized while there.
After lunch Peter and I decided to take a walk along the Potomac River.
What a lovely walk that was.
We walked past Reagan National Airport as well. We took a look at the planes landing and taking off. It is SO cool being there as the planes land right over your head.
A cool experience. If you ever visit DC, I would recommend visiting Gravely Point where you can do some serious plane spotting.
SO, a very, very good Saturday in my neck of the woods.
I hope you all had a great and good Easter.
Let’s hope that spring is right around the corner for all of us now!
Have a good Tuesday!
