Good Morning all of you!
The last Tuesday of January is upon us.
The last weekend of January is behind us.
I hope you all had a good weekend.
Peter and I took our first long hike of 2018 on Saturday.
Yes, it felt great to do so!
Our hikes are so good for both body and soul. It is refreshing to walk in nature. To just be there.
Thank you nature!
The cute little church in Point of Rocks, Maryland.
Trains tracks run thru it. And those trains keep on coming.
Potomac River and the view of Virginia on the other side of the river.
This time around we just drove across the river to Maryland. To a place called Point of Rocks, pretty cool name, I have to day.
Point of Rocks is a tiny little town right on the Potomac River, it has a few homes, stores and a rail road station.
IF you are in to train spotting, this is the place for YOU!
And, it is also a good starting point for a hike.
Point of Rocks bridge, connects Maryland to Virginia.
Potomac Heritage Trail.
If you want to, you can stay in this house. I, for one, think it is haunted :-)
This time around we took a hike on the Potomac Heritage Trail. A trail that starts south of Mount Vernon, Virginia (George Washington’s childhood home) and ends near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It goes thru Virginia, DC, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Peter and I have hiked sections of this trail numerous times before. And, we will continue to do so.
Two ladies in the early morning.
Peter's hiking on ...
The hike on Saturday was EASY peasy!! Really. Totally flat surfaces, a good gravel path. Like, a walk in the park. It really was.
Sometimes it is SO nice to hike this way.
When we hike in the mountains it is SO, SO different, much more demanding, as you know.
The tracks run right along the river and trail.
The colors of the winter, beige, brown and gray.
The weather on Saturday was ideal. It started out in the mid-30’s (3C) and when we were finished it was 61 F (16C).
We hiked 10.5 miles, or 17 kilometers.
A creek nestles its way down to the Potomac.
A good hike indeed! AND, there were HARDLY any people out and about!! Very surprising, but also very NICE!!
It was Peter, myself, Potomac River, nature and the occasional train roaring next to us on the rail road tracks.
Every once in a while you did see a few houses, like this old one.
And, sure, a few people every now and then.
Have a very nice Tuesday!!
