It is Tuesday again!
I hope your weekend was a good one!
Peter and I swapped nature hiking for city hiking.
Sometimes it is nice with a change, right?
We took the metro in to DC early Saturday morning.
The weather was kind of warm, a bit muggy even. But it was sunny and clear blue, so a day in the city seemed like the perfect outing.
On our way to the metro here in Reston. Crossing Dulles Toll Road.
On The National Mall in DC. Peaceful.
It turned out that the metro stop where we wanted to exit the train, Smithsonian, was closed for the entire day. Due to security reasons. There were three rallies taking place in DC at the very same time, one pro-Trump rally, one anti-Trump demonstration and one protest was for the so called Juggalos that do not want to be labeled as a gang, as they are right now. They are only supporting a band called Insane Clown Posse. All these three groups held marches at the same time.
The police presence in DC was HUGE!
I know they were all afraid of riots. After all, we all know what happened in Charlottesville, Virginia recently.
There were cops EVERYWHERE!
However, it all turned out to be a very friendly day in DC, NO riots. Just peaceful between the three groups.
Police men and women ready to take off on their bicycles.
The pro-Trumpers where fairly few, and very white.
SVT was there, Swedish Television (among other tv-networks reporting). I could not resist saying “hi” to them, so I did!
No, SVT did not talk to me :-)
And, I am very happy not to be labeled a pro-Trumper, for sure!!!
Jefferson Memorial and The Tidal Basin. This is where the cherry blossoms bloom in the spring.
Pennsylvania Avenue was closed off due to the rallies.
IT is NOT very often you can walk in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue.
Peter and I walked, walked and walked some more.
All the way from Hains Point to Georgetown via Adams Morgan.
It was hot and sweaty. But, it was also nice.
Rewarding, you know.
However, our legs and feet got SO tired.
The Washington Monument.
We did stop along the way for lunch and drinks.
That is the beauty when city hiking, drinks and foods are plentiful!
Lunch at Shake Shack. Mmmm ... tasty!
A beer in Georgetown. GOOD tasting as anything on a hot day after a LONG walk!
DC streets in Adams Morgan.
We left our home before nine, and we were back home again around 5 in the afternoon.
Sure, we were tired then.
However, it was so rewarding to see ALL the steps we had been taking. Love it.
In Georgetown the houses are SO cute!!
But of course, I agree to each and every statement.
All right, let’s tackle this new week now, shall we!!!
Have a good Tuesday!!
Lots of nice boats in the harbor.
This is the Swedish embassy and the House of Sweden. They are in the schmack middle of Georgetown, right by the waterfront. In my opinion Sweden has the nicest location of ALL the embassies in DC. Good for us *high five*.
