Well, the weather over the weekend did not sound very promising. Peter and I decided early on to ditch our planned hike in Shenandoah. The meteorologists had predicted bad thunderstorms and damaging winds.
No, you do not want to be caught in the mountains in said weather.
But, we wanted to power walk/run somewhere anyway.
So, we went to nearby Burke Lake Park. There is a ten kilometer long, flat, trail surrounding the lake.
Easy peasy for us, really. Ten kilometers on a flat trail is almost child’s play for us by now. I cannot believe that I am saying that, but it is true.
The weather was warm, cloudy and HUMID!
The walk was nice, but un-challenging. The trails were a little bit too packed for our liking.
But, Burke Lake is nice, and fairly big.
We did bring a picnic, and that is always tasty.
I so appreciate all the green spaces we have surrounding us. Forever thankful for that, as you know.
The access to nature is SO easy where I live.
Please, let me show you some pics!
Have a wonderful Tuesday!
In these pics you can almost see how warm and humid it is!
You can rent boats and canoes. The lake is also very popular for fishing.
Green green and green!
I like the emerald green moss covering the ground.
The butterfly above is very common where I live. They are big and beautiful. They go under the name Swallowtail! You'll see them everywhere. Yes, they make me happy :-) The one above is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, the state insect of Virginia.
