This Week: Semlor (Fat Tuesday Buns)
Today it is Fat Tuesday, and in Sweden it is a tradition to eat “semlor” or Fat Tuesday buns today. Actually, nowadays back home you can get a hold of a "semla" even before Christmas, and the bakeries usually sell “semlor” right up until Easter hits.
SO, what is a “semla”? A “semla” is a bun made of wheat that is flavored with cardamom. The bun is filled with creamy almond paste and topped with loads of whipped cream. It is, in my opinion wonderful to eat. It tastes like heaven!
Since I moved to the States I cannot eat as many of these as I’d like during the winter (and that is probably a GOOD thing since every “semla” equals about 20 points on Weight Watcher’s point scale).
But yesterday Lotta, my good friend, made a lot of “semlor” for the Swedish-ladies-breakfast-club.
You probably all know by now that we are a group of Swedish women who get together for breakfast every week. We take turns hosting the breakfast, and yesterday it was Lotta’s turn.
How appropriate then to serve “semlor”, since it was the day before Fat Tuesday!
All of us savored the moment and the goodness.
Every time the group is over at Lotta's place we all compliment her for her beautiful home. I think all of us are agreeing on that her home is extremely stylish. Lotta has managed to marry the best of the American style with the Scandinavian style.

The living room seen from the upper level of the house.
Ah, yes, as a Swede you are sure to use Birch wood when you lit a fire.
Interior from Lotta's kitchen where she has this sitting group. So nice to hang out here.
Just a simple, but great, detail.
This shelf stands in the dining room.
Lotta has two kids, and this is her oldest girl's room. Who knows? Maybe I will shoot more pics from Lotta's house next time I am over there! It is hard resist. Or, maybe I should start a theme here on my blog: My Swedish friends homes!
Well, I guess I'll have to ask them all before shooting away!
Have a wonderful Fat Tuesday today. It will be zero "semlor" for me today. Instead I will have to work, and get my own home into shape.
And here is this weeks entry on the pro-blog that I also write for now.
