New Year...New promises!!
For me my promises are to work out more. OK, I have my Power walks that indeed are powerful. I am no slacker in that department, but it is not enough.
After a good power walk (and a good work-out) I am beet red in my face AND in my palms.
Maybe I’ll show you my palms in a “before and after” picture later…
(NO guys, you will not see my face in this post. I simply cannot scare you that much).
Back when I was going to the gym three times a week I ended up looking like a beet EVERY time, that is just the way it is. I have had instructors asking me if I am OK during a class just by looking at my beet-red face. I am FINE!!
This runs in my family. My Grandpa was exactly the same way, same with my Mom, and same with my brothers. I don’t know if my sister is the same way as well, but it would not surprise me…After a work-out we are as red as can be. You can call us The Beet Family.
I used to take some pretty advanced step-up classes at the gym, and in my step-up class was an ex-ballerina (YES, try to look GOOD next to her in class ;-) .It was an impossible task, ha- ha!!!) and she and I always used to compare our hands and faces afterwards. We were both equally red. She said it was because of our Nordic skin…
The ex-ballerina was of Scandinavian descent. Maybe she’s right? I hope I’ll see her again now when I am about to get back to the gym again. Guys, I haven’t seen the inside of my gym for over a year. Yes, that is TRUE. Instead the power walks have taken over as my main source of exercise, and that is fine, but now I am in desperate need of a little bit of gym action again. Classes that is, “the floor” depresses me more that anything. I hate weight-lifting and I do much better in a class setting than on the floor by myself.
ANYWAY, to boost my power walks I have invested in a pair of Nordic Walking Poles of the highest quality!
TODAY I am about to embark on my first Nordic-walking power walk!! Gosh, I feel like the ODD one out. I think I’ll pick paths less traveled today, and hope for the best….:-) , that people won’t look at me like I am some kind of FREAK girl!!! The girl with the walking sticks, the CRAZY Swede who’s out walking with ski-poles…”Hello, girl, where is your SNOW???”
I’ll give you an up-date here on my blog as soon as I get home again.

SO, my new schedule is…
Body Pump at the gym
Spinning at the gym (with Peter)
AND, despite my bad knees I don’t think I can stay away from my favorite aerobic activity: step-up aerobics. It is just too much fun to pass it up.
But first things first…the Nordic Walk!!! Wish me luck…I am off with the iPod….
I’ll keep you updated…!!!
In the meantime watch this new TV-commercial with Swedish Sven!! I about jumped in my couch when I heard the extreme Swedish accent! SO funny, and good! Much better than the commercial from citi-bank where the father and son are in Norway only to discover that they are Swedish. Sven cracks me up!! How about having Sven in your home!!??
UPDATE: AFTER THE FACT!!!
All right, now I've been out!! I am not a Nordic Walking virgin anymore, AND OMG what a WORK OUT IT IS!!! WHAT A WORK OUT!!!
I am totally pooped!!! I was out for an hour, walking in my regular, fast pace but I FEEL this in my ENTIRE body!!! You tend to walk faster, more upright, and your arms are constantly working! You should see me NOW!! I am a beet, of a beet of a beet! And totally and utterly drenched in sweat. Guys!! this is FAB!!! This is something you all should try! A perfect complement to the gym classes I am about to take and my regular Power-walks! I am hooked, and I am amazed over this! Tomorrow I'll be out there again! This is a good, good thing!!!
Did people look at me in a weird way? Hard to say since I only met a man with a dog and he did not look at me in a certain weird way, and no cars honked or anything like that ;-)
I am so totally high on this now!!!
